This minor thesis aims at identifying whether or not senior English non-major students at Thai Nguyen University of Economics and Business Administration make mistakes when producing 6 English stop consonants at final position p/, /b/, /t/, /d/, /k/, and /g/ and what the common mistakes are, as well as investigating the causes of these mistakes and the solutions to Giúp them correct their mistakes. The study was conducted via a survey in which two methods of data collection were used: recording the informants’ pronunciation of selected isolated words and words within utterances and sentences to find out the common pronunciation mistakes with stop final consonants and a questionnaire to investigate the causes of the mistakes and the solutions to the problems. The data analysis is quantitative. The data analysis reveals the following major findings. The most common mistakes of the informants when pronouncing final stop consonants are sound omission and sound deviation. The main causes of mispronunciation include informants’ tendency to copying teachers and friends’ pronunciation, their limitation of phonetics and phonology knowledge, and their negative attitude towards their learning of English. Based on the findings, implications assumed to be significant to Vietnamese learners of English are made. Specific implications include learners’ coping native speakers’ pronunciation, practising speaking English as much as possible, and attending English pronunciation courses, etc. It is hoped that the study may be beneficial for teachers and students at Thai Nguyen University of Economics and Business Administration and for those who are interested in this issue
