It is undoubted that one of the main factors that brings about successful communication is vocabulary. Therefore, there have been a lot of researches on techniques to teach vocabulary more effectively. Aiming at finding out how the technique of miming is used in teaching vocabulary to the young learners, the author has done a small study to figure out how the teachers and young learners there think of miming as a technique of teaching vocabulary. The study looks at the current situation and difficulties when teachers apply this technique at Hi! Language School Center. This thesis was carried out with two groups: 6 foreign teachers and 38 young learners aged from six to eight from three classes at the English Center of Hi! Language School in Hanoi. Two sets of questionnaires, class observation, and interviews are the instruments employed to address the questions. The study reveals the positive attitudes from the participants towards miming in teaching vocabulary. The teachers adopt this technique frequently. However, there exist some difficulties, such as the natural characteristics of the young learners (aged six to eight) making it harder for them to concentrate on the lessons, selecting the words to mime depending much on word classes, and so on. In the scale of this study, the author hopes to provide those who want to employ miming in teaching with some useful reference. The result of this study may be relevant to further studies to some extent
