Vocabulary is an important and pivotal component of a language, and teaching vocabulary is also important. However, it has not received much recognition it deserves in the classroom at Ha Long Gifted High school. With the focus on the importance of communicative language use, Form-Focused Instruction is considered as an effective method to Giúp promote teaching and learning vocabulary. As one of first attempts to explore the application of Form-Focused Instruction (FFI) in teaching and learning vocabulary at Ha Long Gifted High school, this paper sheds light on both the teachers and students’ attitudes toward vocabulary and teaching vocabulary, the difficulties they encounter as well as suggestions for applying FFI effectively. To achieve the aims of the study, questionnaires and interview are administered on the sample population of 80 students and 6 English teachers at Ha Long Gifted High school. The results of this research show positive signs in the teachers and students’ attitude toward using FFI in teaching and learning vocabulary. By identifying the difficulties they face, the paper gives some suggestions for the teachers, students as well as management board. The study is of great use for finding an effective way of applying FFI to teach vocabulary.
