There is no doubt that the new English textbook has brought a new trend of teaching and learning English as a foreign language in Vietnam. To some extent, the language content of the new textbook has met teachers’ and learners’ need. However, teachers of different parts of the country will use the textbook differently because their students’ level of English is not the same. They change something of the textbook. It means that they adapt it to their own students. An adaptation of the Writing part of English 11 at Nguyen Van Cu upper- secondary school is one example. This study aims to explore the students’ perceptions of teacher’s classroom activities in terms of their usefulness and, to some extent, those activities satisfy their students’ expectations. The subjects of the study were 180 students of 11th form and 5 teachers of English in Nguyen Van Cu upper- secondary school in Gia Lam, a suburb of Ha Noi. These teachers and students were invited to answer questionnaires and practise teaching and learning writing. The researcher attended 16 classes of writing. The research reveals that the majority of the students expressed strong interest in teacher’s adaptation of the Writing Part of the textbook to make it easier, clearer for them to study and found it of great Giúp to their writing production. In addition, the findings of the study reflect that most of the teachers of English in Nguyen Van Cu upper-secondary school adapt the textbook to meet their students’ needs and abilities when learning writing with English 11. And other teachers of English can use an adaptation of the Writing Part in English 11 as reference. After collecting data, analyzing the data, attending classes, the findings will be drawn and some ways to adapt the Writing Part of English 11 in particular and the new textbook in general will be made
