The purpose of this study is to analyze the sentence structure errors in the academic compositions by the second year students at Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam. This minor thesis was carried out basing on the procedures of an error analysis consisting three steps: identifying of errors, analyzing errors and explaining them. Fifty pieces of writing by 50 students randomly chosen from the class-time writing task were analyzed. By doing so, the research showed many interesting features of the sentence structure errors committed by the students at the Academy. Apart from the common sentence errors, the study showed that there were other types of sentence errors that have not been mentioned in the previous studies. By employing quantitative analysis, many error features and sources were found out. The findings are actually helpful to the writing teaching and learning for the teachers and students at the Academy.
