I. Aims: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
- Use the information they have read to discuss the related topic
- Know the some vocabulary about the hobbies
- Develop such reading micro-skills as scanning for specific ideas and guessing meaning
in context
II. Materials: Textbook, poster, pictures
III. Anticipated problems:
- Ss may have limited linguistic resources for discussion, so T should be ready to assist them so
that they can complete various learning tasks.
IV. Procedure:
1. Warm up: (3’) Remembering Group work
- T: Give instructions: “I would like you work in groups of 5 or 6. I will show you 10 pictures of
10 activities. You have to name these activities and remember them in 30 seconds. After
that, the leader of each group will go to board and write down the answers in 1 minute.”
Check instructions:
+ Are you going to work in pair or group?
+ What are you going to do now?
- T: Divide the whole class into 4 groups: Group A, B, C, D
- T: Show the pictures (Pictures - Appendix) one by one in 30s
- Ss: - Look at the pictures, name them and remember
- The leader of each group goes to board and writes down the answer
- T: Stick the pictures on the board and check with the whole class

- T: Ask Ss to answer the questions:
1. When do people do these kinds of things?
2. What do you call things you do in your free time?
3. Which activity do you like to do in our free time? Why?

- T: Give instructions
I would like you read the passage on p. 147 and decide whether these statements are true
or false. You have 5’ to finish it.
Check instructions: What is your duty now?

3. The writer is an avid stamp collector.
4. The writer has more foreign stamps than local ones.

Activity 2: (10’) Lucky number (group work)
- T: Show the following table:
- T: Give instructions
I will divide you in to 2 groups: group A & B. Each group will take turn to choose the
number and answer the question. If you have a right answer, you will have a mark. However, if
you have lucky number, you will have a mark without answering any question. The winner will
be those who have more marks.

- T: Ask one student the following questions as a model:
T: What is your hobby?
Ss: My hobby is reading stories.
T: Why do you like reading stories?
Ss: Because, I feel comfortable, it helps me relax.
T: When do you like reading them?
Ss: I like reading story when I have free time
T: Where do you often read stories?
Ss: I often read in the bed.
- Ss: Ask and answer about partner’s hobbies, then take note.
- T: Go around as a monitor for observing and offering help if necessary.
- T: Call on some Ss to report their interview using information on their table.
- Ss: Go to board and report using the information on the handout.
- T: Listen and check mistake with the whole class.
5. Home work: (1’)
- Learn by heart all new words and give examples.
- Summarize the passage on p.147
- Prepare for the next lesson.
