A case study on the use of
the KRONE TERMINATOR™
System by Tyco Integrated
Systems (formerly Philips
Projects Australasia) to
connect the control and
power supplies in each
closed circuit television
(CCTV) monitoring rack.

stations, carparks and bus interchanges is a major

The success of the CCTV rollout was evident during
the 2000 Sydney Olympics, when the cameras were
effectively used for security and crowd control.
Cable Termination
The TERMINATOR system is based on the KRONE
Insulation Displacement Connection (IDC)
technique which requires no stripping or screwing.
Using a simple tool, wires are inserted between
contacts placed at a 45-degree angle which
simultaneously displace the insulation and notch
the conductor.
This method leaves more conductor between
contact points and provides a more reliable
connection. Screwless terminations also overcome
the potential risk of failing to tighten the screw
correctly, a common cause of terminal failure.
Evaluation
The KRONE TERMINATOR system saved time for
Philips Projects Australasia as well as producing
reliable connections.
John Freeland, Philips’ Site Supervisor for SRA said
of TERMINATOR: “One particular advantage of the

impressed by all the
features the KRONE
TERMINATOR system offers – and the fact that it is
an Australian-manufactured product – that we are
now specifying it for our other CCTV sites,
particularly in the hotel security area.”
