aLanguage is an important means of communicative and it is also the reflection of human life. Therefore, by contrasting and analyzing languages, we can recognize the similarities and differences not only between the knowledge of the contrasted languages but also between the sociolinguistic aspects where the languages are used. The minor M.A thesis which is entitled “A contrastive analysis between the verb “FALL” in English and the verb “NGÔ in Vietnamese” is an attempt to find out the similarities and differences between the two verbs in terms of microlinguistics and macrolinguistics. The result of the study may Giúp to draw a general picture of the two words as well as their synonyms and idioms with them, how they are similarly and differently affected by extralinguistic factors. Learners, teachers and traslators may benefit from this picture in widening vocabulary and finding equivalents for the source word. For this purpose, not only are recommendations put forward for foreign language teaching and learning, but also for the translation from English into Vietnamese and vice versa
