Miêu tả:This thesis was carried out to investigate the potential sources causing students’ reticence in English speaking lessons. The participants were 140 tenth-form students whose English proficiency level was mostly pre-intermediate and 9 English teachers at Hoằng Hoá 4 high school, Thanh Hoa province. The data were collected via survey questionnaires for students and for teachers; and a follow-up interview for students. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively as well. This study identifies that learners’ reticence can be explained by a variety of reasons such as students’ low English proficiency, the fear of being laughed at when making mistakes, not accustomed to speaking English in class, introversive personality, teacher’s too much talking and rude mistake correction, etc.. Based on the results, some pedagogical implications were put forward for solving the problem
