Lesson: 1 - Getting Started
- Listen and Read
I. Aim:
By the end of the lesson, Ss’ll be able to understand the details of the conversation and
describe people, using “enough to V”

IV. Teaching procedure:
Teacher Students
1. Warm up: (10 )’ Getting Started
- T. asks Ss to look at the pictures a, b, c, d on page 10
to describe the four groups of friends and favorite
activities.
- T. gives some suggested questions:
a. Are the boys / girls the same age?
b. What are they doing?
c. What do they like doing in their free time?
- T. asks Ss to look at the pictures and answer the
questions in pairs in 3 minutes.
- After 3 minutes, T. calls some pairs to check the
answers.

* Pre-questions:
a. Is Nien younger than Hoa?
b. Where does Nien live?
c. Is she a beautiful girl?
- T. has Ss give the feed back.
- T. has Ss open their books, read the dialogue and
check their answers if false.
* Answer key:
a. Yes, she is.
b. She lives in Hue.
c. Yes, she is beautiful.
- T. has Ss look at the dialogue, listen to the tape and
repeat to check the pronunciation.
- Then T. has Ss read the dialogue in pairs in 2
minutes.
- T. calls some pairs to read out in front of class.
- T. has Ss do Ex2.
Ex2: Answer the following questions P.11–
a. How does Hoa feel? Why?
b. Where does Nien live?
c. Does Lan know Nien?
d. What does Nien look like?

- The first, T. has Ss prepare in 2 minutes, next
practice in pairs in 2 minutes, and then call some pairs
to check again.
* Model sentences:

3. Practice:
- T. has Ss practice the model, using Repetion drill,
using some world cue.
Ex3: Complete the sentences, using word cue with
enough to + V
* For weak students:
a. He / join the police.

* For stronger students:
a. He / tall / join the police.

- T. does the first a, as an example:

- T. has Ss do invidually first and then compare with
their partners.
- After that, T. has Ss read out their answers and
correct.

Teacher Students
1. Warm up: (7 ) Brainstorming’
- T. asks Ss to write down the adjectives used to
describe body build and hair in groups of 4 in 2
minutes.
- After 2 minutes, T. collects and writes on the board,
and then ask Ss to write on their notebooks.
2. Speak (22 )’
a. Pre speaking:–
* Pre teach:–
T. uses some pictures to introduce some new words.
New words:
Slim (adj): thanh m¶nh, m¶nh dÎ.
Curly (adj): qu¨n, xo¨n (tãc)
Bold (adj): hãi (tãc), t¸o b¹o, liÒu lÜnh.
Straight (adj): th¼ng
Blond (adj): vµng hoe (tãc)
Fair (adj): tr¾ng (da), vµng nh¹t (tãc)
- T. asks Ss to read vocab in chorus and individually.
- Ss write adjectives to
describe body build and hair.
- Ss listen, correct and writte
on notebook.
- Ss listen, repeat and write
- T. has Ss look at six pictures in speak 2 and adjectives
in the box, elicit: Who is this? / Is this Mr. Lai?
- T. uses the game “Guessing game” to help Ss practice.
- T. has Ss work in pairs to describe the people in the
pictures in Speak 2 on page 11.
Example exchange:
S1: This person is short and thin. She has short
fair hair.
S2: Is this Miss Lien?
If false,S1: No, she isn’t.
S2: (Ss must guess other)
If true, S1: Yes, she is.
- Lets Ss practice in pairs in 5 minutes, then call some
pairs to speak out.
c. Post reading:–
- T. has Ss describe their partners.
- T. has Ss write the description of the people in speak 2
on page 11 in their notebooks and compare with their
partner.
- T. calls some Ss to speak out, and correct.
3. Listen (15 )’
a. Pre listening:–
- T. asks Ss some questions to lead Ss in the lesson
“Slap the board”.
- Ss look at the pictures and
listen to the tape and answer
the questions: They are
describing about Mary.
- Ss listen and repeat after the
tape, and read the dialogue in
complete them in pairs.
- T. has feed back form Ss.
b. While listening:
- T. has Ss listen to all 4 dialogues to the tape
- T. has Ss listen twice and stop the teacher and then
correct their predictions.
- T. has Ss listen again and give the correct answers.
c. Post listening:
- T. asks Ss to practice their dialogue a, b, c, d with their
partners in some minutes, call some pairs to read out in
front of class. (Can devide whole class into four groups)
Homework: (1 )’
- Learn newwords, structure describing a person’s
appearance.
- Describe about 3 your relatives.
- Prepare “Read on page 13”.
- Ss answer T’s questions

- Then T. checks vocab, using R.O.R.
- T. asks Ss to close their books, look at the picture
and introduces: This is Ba. He is talking about his
friends, Bao, Song, Khai. Do you think these are his
friends?
- T. has Ss do Ex1 in 2 minutes, by guessing first.
- T. has Ss get feed back.

b. Past simple:
- The past simple to talk about action which happened
in the past with yesterday, last, ago, at the first time.

Example : She is old enough to see that film.
She is not clever enough to this thing.
3. Practice:(22 )’
* Language focus 1 P.16–
- T. has Ss revise the simple past tense, by matching
