Clients are under more pressure than ever to maximize the
return on their investments. They must deliver improved
service to their customers with lower risk and while
paying less.
IBM System x and BladeCenter announce the launch of the
new generation servers, four new offerings equipped with
the new Intel Xeon 5500 Series Processors:
– The IBM System x3550 M2 2-socket rack server
– The IBM System x3650 M2 2-socket rack server
– The IBM BladeCenter HS22 2-socket blade server
– The IBM iDataPlex dx360 M2 2-socket iDataPlex server
The new generation servers are a completely redesigned set
of offerings including a greater feature set than previous
offerings and improvements in performance, energy
efficiency, virtualization, and management.

The Launch of the New Generation of IBM Servers
11
The New Generation of IBM System x and BladeCenter servers deliver business value
and reduce costs for clients through industry leading scalability, virtualization and
management capabilities.
Significantly reduce operating costs without compromising reliability and
performance
• New energy smart design and efficiency to reduce operational costs
• Unified systems management tools that reduce the cost to deploy and manage
physical and virtualized systems
• Dramatic performance gains with the Intel Xeon 5500 processors
Manage risk in challenging economic conditions
• IBM innovation for reliability and leadership energy efficient design
• Reduce operational and service costs with significantly improved application
performance
Improve the service of IT in both the enterprise and mid-market
• IBM’s trusted leadership, global reach, service and support
• Higher performance to drive new or expanding application workloads
A storage solutions company that
specializes in “heavy” virtualization
needed a solution that will showcase
their own products to the best
advantage. How well their servers
perform in this crucial area directly
impacts their ability to win clients. They
need an offering that “performs on the
bleeding edge.” They chose the HS22
because it delivered.

Reduce Costs Through Energy Efficiency
13
Energy efficiency innovation in the x3550 M2 and
x3650 M2 include:
New, greater than 92 percent efficiency power
supplies exceed the CSCI 7/09-6/10, 80 Plus Gold
efficiency standard
Up to 60 percent reduction in power when idle
and up to 25 percent reduction when fully
utilized vs. the previous generation
Significantly reduce TCO with leadership
14
Customers can lower energy costs US$100 per server per year and maintain workload levels
with significantly fewer of the new IBM x3650M2 servers

control to more easily manage servers from a central
location
The new Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) provides a
intuitive interface allowing you to add features and functions
across the all new generation servers quickly
A leading IT analyst said that the
new System x portfolio integrates
advances such as UEFI firmware,
embedded hypervisor support,
integrated storage controllers,
hot-swap hard drives, and a built-
in altimeter that enable
coordinated, system-level
improvements. “These are not
just a few more incremental
server SKUs; this new generation
represents a good opportunity for
systematic server refreshes.”
