This thesis is an attempt to uncover humour creating ways in British funny stories from linguistic perspective. It provides learners of English with better understanding of English jokes and funny stories. To accomplish this research, the theoretical background of linguistic factors and humor are worked out for the interpretations. The list of 33 English jokes/ funny stories is taken from the reliable sources in accordance with two criteria (i) lexical ambiguity and (ii) grammatical ambiguity. The findings from the analysis have revealed the typical linguistic features that cause laughter in the stories. What's more, the study provides the interpreter with better understanding of pragmatics. Finally, the study brings about some implications for English language teaching and learning. On account of this, learners of English can understand and make full use of funny stories to make English learning less challenging
