Considered to be an important affective variable, anxiety has been found to be correlated with English-speaking achievement. Andres (2002) asserted that “If we want our students to develop their inherent potential to learn, the affective variables such as anxiety, motivation, self-esteem and inhibition can no longer be denied, the inner needs of the learners can no longer be neglected”. This study, in order to explore high school students’ anxiety in speaking English in classroom, investigated and analyze two cases from Le Quy Don high school. Data was collected by cases' diary after each speaking lesson, from unit 8 to unit 14 in textbook English 10 and teacher's observation while students speaking English in the class. The results from students' writing and teacher's observation suggested that students indeed had comparatively high anxiety in English speaking. Some factors believed to contribute to the alleviation of anxiety were also identified, among which fear of negative evaluation, fear of testing, self- perception of speaking ability in target language were the most common factors for students' anxiety. At the end of the paper, some strategies are suggested to alleviate students' anxiety in speaking English in terms of students and teachers
