It is undeniable that English has become more and more important in any society. Being aware of this important of English as well as the necessity of developing the learners’ communicative competence, the new text book has been applied with some considerable changes in the context and methodology in the 10th form. This book aims at improving students’ communicative skills concerning reading, speaking, listening, writing, among which listening plays an important role but is still a weak link in the teaching process. In order to investigate typical difficulties in teaching and learning listening skill for the 10th form students after such a change in syllabus, this study was carried out. During the process of conducting this research, the data are combined from three main sources: questionnaire for the 10th form students, interview questions for the teachers of English at Tay Ho high school, and classroom observation. The results then are categorized and analyzed carefully. The collected data reveal the students and teachers’ difficulties in listening comprehension in the 10th form. These data are taken into account when the researcher discusses the results and suggests some feasible solutions to overcome those difficulties
