- Tell Ss to find out the treasure, the word of the day by combining the first
letters in the names of these things.(Don’t give them the names).
- The group that can first find out the word will be the winner.
- Check Ss’ understanding of the instruction and have them start the game.

- Check Ss’ understanding of the instruction and have them start the game.

- Have Ss work in groups of 3 to 4.
- Ask them to make a list of famous scientists in 5 minutes.
- After 5 minutes, the group with the longest list will be the winner.
Note: Ss may give the wrong spellings of some scientists. Accept them and
make necessary corrections.
- Ask further questions about some scientists regarding their specialisations and
achievements.
UNIT 6: AN EXCURSION
(Reading)
- Ask Ss to work in groups in three to four and make a list of famous places in
Vietnam in 5 minutes. The group with the longest list will be the winner.
Note: T may hang large pictures on the board so that T can help Ss follow
easily and keep them interested.

a/ Rule:
- Divide the class into groups of four or five.

horizontally or even diagonally first will be the winner.

5. Distribute each list of words to both teams. Every student on each team
should have a paper. Both teams have the same words.
6. When you call a word, 2 students should stand up, one from each team. The
students must then run to the blackboard and race to write a sentence using their
word.
7. The winner is the one with a correct and clearly written sentence.
17/ Rearranging:
a/ Rule:
- Have Ss work in group of four.
- Give out 5 to 7 sentences whose words are not in correctorder or a letter is not
in correct order.
- Ask Ss to rearrange the words to make complete sentences or rearrange the

a/ Rule:
- Divide the class into small groups.
- Give each group one card containing 4->10 words whose letters are jumbled.

19/ Word Square:
a/Rule:
- Ask Ss to work in groups.
- Stick the big poster on the board and give each group the copy of the word
square. The word square contains some hiden words about the given topic.

below the word square.

the word. If Ss guess the word in the first clue, they get 30 points, 20 points in the
second clue and 10 in the third clue.

32/ Shark Attack:
a/ Rule
- Cut out a shark (or crocodile) and a school girl/ boy from card.
- Draw some steps, then stick the cut out girl/boy on top of the steps, the shark
is in the sea.
- Draw some gaps for the word - favor.
- Get students into teams (or ask them as a whole class) for a letter in the
alphabet. They have to try to guess the word. If their guess is wrong, the girl/ boy
has to step down. If their guess is right, they will get one mark. The game
continues until students find out the word - favor and the shark can't eat the girl /
boy.

a/ Rule:
- Draw squares with the topics as shown on the board:
- Divide class into 2 groups: Tom and Jerry.
- Set a time limit of 6 minutes.

- Each group takes turns to choose a topic and sing part of a song about that
topic within 15 seconds. One correct song gains the group one point.If the group
fails to sing that song, no points awarded for that turn.
- Play continues until the time is up.
- Keep a running total of points for each group on the board.
- The group with more points wins.
