Miêu tả:The use of video materials in English language learning is not new; however, their effectiveness is still controversial in different circumstances. Focusing on listening skills, the research aims at investigating the effectiveness of videos to reduce students’ anxiety in listening lessons. Specifically, the research was carried out within the context of Thanh Hoa Medical College. The data were collected during the second term, with contribution of fifty students. They were taught listening skill in ten weeks with video materials. Three data collection instruments namely questionnaire, interview and diary were utilized to obtain the necessary information for the study. From these different channels, the findings that students at THMC strongly advocated the importance and necessity of applying video in listening class. The results showed the positive changes in students’ attitude (liking, interest, motivation) toward video. Students’ anxiety became less. They were more confident and comfortable in doing listening activities which the teacher assigned. Furthermore, students’ perceived learning listening skill with video materials considerably changed in comparison with audio- only version. Such a fact, highlights the positive effect and necessity of using video in teaching listening to reduce students’ anxiety and improve students’ listening competence. Finally, this study will hopefully be reliable source of reference for teachers of English in general to develop teaching methods and video application in class. In the future, it will be a springboard for many further studies
