It is a common knowledge that listening is an important language skill. However, in the reality, the teaching and learning English listening skill in Phu Ly B high school, Hanam is somehow troublesome. This study is to investigate problems of teaching English listening skills by two survey questionnaires, one for 180 tenth-form students and the other for 7 teachers of English. Informal interviews are also carried out to elicit hidden reasons behind participants’ answers in the questionnaires and to Giúp the researcher draw a vivid picture of a listening lesson as well. From the results inferred in the analysis, the study suggests some feasible solutions to make teaching and learning English listening skills more effective
