Relative clause
- Review the uses of Relative clauses , ask sts to state
it and give some examples
• RELATIVE PRONOUNS ( WHO , WHOM ,WHICH ,
THAT , WHEN , WHEN , WHY )
• Usages :
WHO + VERB ( Làm chủ từ trong MDQH )
WHOM + S + V ( làm túc từ trong MDQH )
o DT VẬT + WHICH +( S ) + V ( thay thế danh
từ chỉ vãt )
o VẬT / NGUOI + WHOSE + Noun ( thay thế cho tính
từ sở hửu )
o Place / hotel / house / school ….. + WHEN
o Time / period / day / year …… + WHERE
o The reason + WHY
Lưu ý ; _ Không dùng THAT trong MDQH không giớI
han ( dặt giữa 2 dấu phẩy
WHOM & WHICH có thể được đặt sau giói từ :
Ex : This is the man about whom I’ve told you yesterday
( about được chuyển lên trước WHOM )

- T reviews as quickly as possible the Relative
clauses , and then gives some more information about
relative clauses in other cases
In informal English , we can leave out the
pronouns :

o WHO( M )/ WHICH / THAT used as object .
o In restrictive relative clauses
Ex : The woman who/ whom / that you met yesterday
is my aunt Laura
→ The woman you met yesterday is my aunt Laura
We cannot leave out the pronoun when it used
as the subject of the relative clause , and in
non-restrictive relative clauses , and after a
preposition
Ex : The boy who / that plays the piano is Ben
Ex : This watch , which I bought ten years
ago , has always kept accurate time
Ex : The people with whom I went on holiday
were very kind .
