This Action Research was carried out to investigate the effectiveness of consolidating and developing vocabulary for grade 11 English-major students at BHSHS through the ten selected supplementary reading texts plus a set of vocabulary enhancement exercises and explore their attitudes towards this supplementary reading programme after the 10-week trial period. In order to collect data for the research, a pre-task questionnaire, a post-task questionnaire, a pre-test and two post-tests were employed. After a preliminary investigation via the pre-task questionnaire, a supplementary reading programme was designed and then implemented in the first semester of the school year 2011-2012 with the participation of 32 grade 11 English-major students at BHSHS, Ha Nam. The results from the post-task questionnaire, the tests showed that there had been great improvement in the students’ vocabulary knowledge after they took part in the supplementary reading programme to consolidate and develop vocabulary and that the students highly appreciated the supplementary reading programme and expected that this programme should be continued to Giúp them study vocabulary
