Instructions:
Part 1: The examiner asks the candidate about him/herself, his/her home, work or studies or
other familiar topics.
Part 2: The examiner asks the candidate to talk about one topic for three or four minutes. The
candidate has one minute to think about what to say and makes some notes if necessary.
Part 3: The examiner and the candidate discuss a few more questions related to the topic in
Part 2.
PART I: INTERVIEW (2-3 minutes)
• May I have your full name, please?
• What do you hate the most about children?
 Crying a lot I think
 What I hate the most about children is that they are lazy eating
• How many children would you like to have?
 I would like to have three children although we are encouraged to have one or
two children only by the government.
• When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
 When I was little, I wanted to become a teacher because I admired/ loved my
teacher a lot and I wanted to become a person like her/him. However, I’m an
accountant now.
 When I was little, I wished to become a doctor because I wanted to help many
people but now I work at a bank.
PART 2: LONG TURN (4-5 minutes)
Ask the candidate to talk about the topic he/she has chosen.
Describe a young child you know or know about.
You should say:

• What’s your name? Could you spell your name, please?
• What do you do? What’s your job?
 I’m an accountant for ABC Company which specializes in construction.
• What countries have you visited?
 I have been to several countries in the world such as China, Singapore and
Thailand. Among these countries, I like Singapore best because it is a very clean
one.
 I have never been abroad but I would love to visit France one day because I have
always wanted to visit the Eiffel Tower.
• When do you feel best? In the morning, afternoon or evening?
 I think I feel best in the morning after a sound sleep/ a night rest. It seems that I
have more energy at that time.
PART 2: LONG TURN (4-5 minutes)
Ask the candidate to talk about the topic he/she has chosen.
Describe an old person you know or know about.
You should mention:
• What that person looks like
• What he or she likes doing
• How that person has changed since they were younger
And say if you think that person is happy to be that age or not and why.
PART 3: TWO-WAY DISCUSSION (3-4 minutes)
• How will your life be different when you reach your old age?
 When I’m old, life will be much different as it keeps changing, you know. Perhaps
there will be more people living until the age of 100 thanks to the advancement in

 In my free time, I like watching TV and going out with my friends.
• What do you like to do in your free time but you can’t?
 I really like to visit my parents during my free time but they live in Nghe An,
which is very far away from here so I can’t visit them so often.
 I really like travelling abroad in my free time but my work is really busy so I can’t
manage to have a long holiday.
PART 2: LONG TURN (4-5 minutes)
Ask the candidate to talk about the topic he/she has chosen.
Describe a building that has made an impression on you.
You should say:
• What it looks like
• Where it is
• What it is used for
And say if you like that building or not and why.
PART 3: TWO-WAY DISCUSSION (3-4 minutes)
• Do you think that old buildings are more beautiful than new ones? Why (not)?
 Yes, I do. Some old buildings in Hanoi such as Hanoi Opera House or Sofitel
Metropole Hotel look very elegant and much more beautiful than new buildings.
 No, I don’t. I can see that new buildings are often equipped with modern facilities
and are now well-designed. Therefore, they look much more beautiful than old
ones.
• Describe a building you dislike. Why don’t you like it?
 I dislike the building where I work because it looks really old. It was built in the
1990s. There are two stories…
• How important are monuments (like Big Ben) in defining a nation?
 I think they are really important in giving the image of the country. For example,
when people see the Eiffel Tower, they think of France and the One-Pillar Pagoda
reminds people of Vietnam.
• How do you think ancient civilizations (like the Egyptians) constructed large
buildings?

Describe a place which you think is beautiful.
You should say:
• What that place is like
• How you can get there from here
• What kind of people usually go there
And say why you think it is beautiful.
PART 3: TWO-WAY DISCUSSION (3-4 minutes)
• Is your country the best place for you to live?
 I think Vietnam is the best place to live because here I live near my parents.
Besides, there are many beautiful places in Vietnam to visit and Vietnamese
people are very friendly as well.
• Would you like to live where there is desert and hot weather?
 No, I wouldn’t. It is too hot for me to live in such places. I can’t stand the heat
and it’s difficult to make a living I think.
• Would you like to live where there is always snow?
 No, I wouldn’t. I don’t want to live in such harsh weather. Moreover, I’m easy to
catch a cold. It would be fine if I lived in Korea because it snows only in the
winter.
• Where would you like to go for your next holiday?
 I’m planning to go back home on my next holiday because I haven’t been back for
three months. I am going with my family and going to visit my parents and some
of my close relatives there. I am planning to get together with some old friends in
the café near my house, too. …

Instructions:

 I think a two-day weekend is fine for me because then I can work 5 days during
the week and then spend enough time relaxing at the weekend with my family. A
three day weekend would be too long because then we had to reduce our working

 The most unforgetable weekend for me was when I went to Halong Bay with my

 In my family, I respect my mother most because she has been taking care of me
since I was little. She is also very understanding. I always come to her when I
have any problems. She is really my idol and I want to become a person like her.
 In my family, I respect my father most because he taught me how to live well and
always gives me good advice.
• Who has had the most influence in your life?
 My father has had the most influence in my life. It is my father who strictly taught
me valuable lessons in life and always stands by my side whenever I have trouble.
He really sets a good example for us to follow.

Talk about a pet you have or have had.

 Because I need it for my work. Moreoever, I can read books and watch a lot of
interesting films on TV.
• When did you start to study English?
 I started learning English when I was in the 6

grade but we just focused on
grammar at first. I now want to improve speaking and listening skills.
• Why did you decide to take this course?
 I decided to take this course because I’m preparing to take B1 test to get B1
certificate, which is required for my M.A graduation.

Talk about your favourite leisure activity.
You should say:
• how often you do it
• who you often do it with
• why you enjoy doing it
And say what kind of people you would recommend this activity to, and why.

 Actually I don’t like reading magazine. I often read online news only to know
what is happening around me and in the world.

Ask the candidate to talk about the topic he/she has chosen.
Talk about a birthday you remember well.
You should say:
• What you did
• Who you spent the day with
• Why you remember that birthday so well
And say if you’d like to have exactly the same kind of birthday again or not, and why.
PART 3: TWO-WAY DISCUSSION (3-4 minutes)
• Have you ever forgotten someone’s birthday that you should have remembercu:
• Would you rather celebrate your birthday with just your relatives or just your friends?
• Which is a better present, a well-chosen gift or money?
• Is the cost of a present important to you?
