II. MỘT SỐ QUY TẮC CHUNG CƠ BẢN
1. Quy tắc thành lập âm tiết
1 phụ âm + 1 nguyên âm => 1 ÂT
1 phụ âm + 1 nguyên âm => 1 ÂT
1 nguyên âm lẻ đứng 1 mình => 1 ÂT
1 phụ âm (âm gió) => không được tính là 1 ÂT
 Tổng: 3 âm tiết

Lưu ý: Trong một số trường hợp đặc biệt là ở những từ một âm tiết có 2 nguyên âm đứng liền
nhau tạo thành nguyên âm đôi. VD: hear, see
2. Hậu tố là gì? Tiền tố là gì?
3. Quy tắc nguyên âm /ə/
a. 5 nguyên âm: u,e,o,a,i (uể oải)
• Nếu được đọc tròn, rõ âm => nhấn trọng âm
• Nếu được đọc là /ə/, đọc nhẹ => không nhấn trọng âm
Quy tắc này áp dụng làm bài trọng âm đối với từ đã biết cách đọc nhưng chưa biết trọng âm rơi ở
đâu

c. Đa số danh từ ghép, tính từ ghép trọng âm rơi vào âm tiết đầu

d. Những từ kết thúc bằng how, what, where, trọng âm rơi vào âm tiết đầu
VD: `anyhow, `somewhere, `somewhat
e. Những từ kết thúc bằng đuôi ever, trọng âm rơi vào đuôi ever

f. Đại từ phản thân trọng âm rơi vào chữ self/selves
VD: your`self, them`selves
g. Số đếm tận cùng bằng đuôi
• ty: trọng âm rơi âm trước nó. VD: `forty, `ninety
• teen: trọng âm rơi chính nó: VD: four`teen, nine`teen
h. Một số từ 2 âm tiết vừa là động từ, vừa là danh từ hoặc tính từ không thay đổi cách
viết thì trọng âm phụ thuộc nó là loại từ nào
4. TỪ 3 ÂM TIẾT TRỞ LÊN không có hậu tố, tiền tố đặc biệt, trọng âm thường rơi vào
âm thứ 3 từ dưới lên VD: `difficult
a. Từ 3 âm tiết tận cùng bằng age, ous thường rơi âm thứ 3 từ dưới trở lên (nguyên tắc yếu)
VD: `beverage, `patronage
b. Từ tận cùng bằng đuôi ing, ful, less, able, ible, ed, ly, er, age, ous trọng âm thường không
rơi vào âm đó
TRÌNH TỰ LÀM BÀI TRỌNG ÂM
Bước 1: Bao giờ cũng xét hậu tố trước
Khi xét trọng âm của một từ, ta luôn phải xét hậu tố có đặc biệt hay không. Nếu hậu tố là các
trường hợp đặc biệt đã liệt kê phía trên thì xác định trọng âm theo quy tắc của hậu tố
